The system was using R22 Freon, which has been outlawed by the federal government for depleting the ozone layer of the atmosphere. We provided several options for the future comfort of their new home. After approving the estimate, our team moved forward with installing a new American Standard 3 ton Heat Pump 14 SEER2 system, air handler, auxiliary heat kit, and thermostat.

We installed a new garbage disposal, removed the existing sink drain piping, and installed new upgraded tubular PVC drain pipe to ensure proper drainage and functionality.

Handyside Plumbing, HVAC & Electrical provided an evaluation and completed work to address the customer's sewer line concerns. We performed a main line repipe by excavating down to the pipe at the foundation wall and continuing excavation of the remaining line out to the street. The existing pipe was removed and replaced with new PVC pipe, including a cleanout stubbed to surface level at the curb. The new pipe was then bedded in stone, and all required testing was completed. The pipe is covered in stone, the ditch will be backfilled to above grade, and the sidewalk will be formed and poured with new concrete.

A remodeling escutcheon plate was installed to cover the area where the shower was cut. The new trim plate, handle, and tub spout were then installed to complete the update.

After reviewing the breaker panel and outside service, it was recommended that the outside service wire and meter base be replaced. The breaker panel was in decent condition, but it needed to be rewired, and the plywood backing behind the panel also needed to be updated. After our work was completed, the home’s electricity was fully restored.

Our team then brushed each supply and return branch run and the main trunk lines to dislodge built up dust and debris for safe collection by the vacuum system. Afterward, we cleaned and sanitized all vent grilles and registers, cleaned the HVAC equipment, tested the system to confirm proper operation, and reviewed the completed work with the homeowner to support cleaner indoor air and help maintain efficient system performance.

After evaluating the home’s plumbing system and hot water usage, we recommended a water heater replacement along with a new water softener system to improve performance, efficiency, and water quality.

Our team safely shut off the water supply, drained and removed the old water heater, and upgraded the plumbing connections. We installed a new 50-gallon Rheem power-vent water heater, along with a new expansion tank, new shutoff valves on both the hot and cold water lines, and a mixing valve to ensure safe and consistent water temperatures throughout the home. The venting was also updated by replacing a section of the existing PVC venting to meet current installation standards.

Once installed, the system was filled, powered on, and thoroughly tested. All gas and water connections were checked to confirm leak-free operation and proper performance.

To address the homeowner’s water quality concerns, we installed a Lancaster whole-home water softener, including a new brine tank and discharge line. The system was initially bypassed until startup could be completed. On a return visit, our technicians completed the softener startup process, ensuring the system was operating correctly.

During this visit, we also identified a dripping shutoff valve serving the dehumidifier. To prevent future issues, we proactively replaced it with a new angle stop valve and verified there were no leaks.

After a thorough evaluation, our team determined that the home’s existing heating and cooling system—originally installed in 2006—was no longer operating safely or efficiently due to a cracked heat exchanger. To improve comfort, efficiency, indoor air quality, and long-term reliability, we provided a complete HVAC system upgrade tailored to the homeowners’ needs.

We safely removed and disposed of the old equipment and installed a high-efficiency American Standard dual-fuel heating and cooling system, featuring a 97% efficient two-stage gas furnace and a variable-capacity air conditioner rated up to 18 SEER2. This advanced system delivers consistent temperatures, quieter operation, and reduced energy costs by adjusting output based on the home’s demand rather than constantly cycling on and off.

To address comfort issues on the second floor, we added HVAC zoning, separating the first and second floors. This allows each level of the home to be controlled independently, improving comfort during hot summer months and cold winter days.

Indoor air quality was also a priority. We installed a whole-home Aprilaire MERV 16 air filtration system to capture allergens, dust, and airborne particles, along with a fresh air ventilation system to bring in clean, filtered outdoor air for a healthier indoor environment.

The installation included custom duct transitions, upgraded filtration, new refrigerant lines, electrical and gas connections, proper drainage, and a new smart Wi-Fi thermostat—ensuring the system was installed correctly, safely, and built to last.
