This Etters, PA homeowner reached out to Handyside Plumbing, HVAC & Electrical to schedule seasonal air conditioning maintenance and get their cooling system ready for the warmer months ahead. Routine seasonal maintenance is one of the best ways to protect comfort, catch small issues before they become expensive repairs, and keep a system running efficiently through the hottest stretch of summer. The goal was a thorough, top-to-bottom checkup from a team they could trust to be honest about the condition of their equipment.
Our technician performed a complete seasonal AC maintenance visit. That included checking the temperature split, evaluating ductwork condition, replacing the air filter, and checking the amperage of the blower, compressor, and fan. We also rinsed the coils, flushed the drain line, inspected the drain pan for cracks, tested the capacitors, and verified the refrigerant charge.
During the visit, we identified two items worth the homeowner's attention. First, while there was a safety float in place at the condensate trap, the emergency drain pan had no safety device of its own. We found evidence of past water in the pan (light rust), though no active water was present during the visit. We recommended installing an emergency drain pan safety switch that shuts the system off automatically if water ever backs up or leaks, protecting the home from potential water damage.
Second, we found the outdoor unit's coil was clogged on the back side. A clogged coil makes the system work harder, which hurts both performance and long-term reliability. We recommended a heavy scrub to restore proper airflow. The homeowner chose to move forward with the heavy scrub, completed on-site that day. We removed the fan and panels and washed the coil from the inside and outside several times until it was completely clean, then cleaned the panels and fan and reassembled everything. We verified full operation upon completion. The system is cooling properly under present conditions.
